It has been 8 years since we lost Andrea to colon cancer. Connor was around three months old when Andrea was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, and unfortunately, she passed when Connor was only 15 months old. Connor is now 9 years old and holds on tight to the pictures and stories that he has of his mom. He is a big-hearted boy that wants to keep doing good by her and raising as much money as possible for colon cancer research. I asked him what his goals were for this year’s campaign/race and his reply was to raise over $5,500 and to complete the race in 35 minutes!! He knew right away that he raised over $5,000 and completed the race in 40 min last year. His memory of all this surprised me considering he forgets things I ask him to do two seconds after asking him...haha. It goes to show the importance of this event to him, and doing as much as he can to make his mom proud of him. This year will mark our 7th year of participating in the race, and hopefully Connor’s 6th year straight of being the top individual fundraiser.

I know most of us have seen the recent news articles on how colon cancer has been increasing in people younger and younger, and yet the reason for the increase is not known. Money raised by this event goes towards research, education initiatives, expanding colon cancer screenings and support. Money raised by the Raleigh event stay local too! Colon cancer has a high survival rate, if diagnosed in the early stages so let’s do all we can to Get Your Rear In Gear!
Please consider joining our family at the event through participation in the 5K Run/Walk and/or through a donation towards the event. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
