I turned 50 in January of 2019. A colonoscopy was not on the top of my list of things to do with my busy lifestyle. In October, the busiest season of work where I would never think of finding the time for a colonoscopy, I got extremely sick to my stomach. I went to the ER and was admitted for an odd infection. After a week long stay in the hospital and many tests, I was given a partial colonoscopy to "rule out" anything more serious. On this day, a 4 cm tumor was discovered in my colon. From that point on life was in fast forward and slow motion at the same time. I was further tested to see if it spread. Once the swelling was down I was given a full colonoscopy and a biopsy was taken. Surgery was scheduled for the day before Thanksgiving. Dr. Scott Goldstein of Jefferson Hospital successfully removed the tumor and by a miracle, it did not spread. I didn't have time for a colonoscopy when I turned 50 but somehow made the time to deal with colon cancer, doctor appointments, surgery, and recovery! I really hope my story will encourage other people to schedule a colonoscopy right away. It's really not as big a deal as we make it in our mind. I was fortunate that my cancer was caught early and they could remove it all. For too many people this is not the case if it's not discovered in time.

January 14th 2020 - I am 51~My Birthday wish is to help as many people as possible through my story and we can do this together. I am a part of Team Jefferson because the level of care I received from both my doctor, the team of doctors, the nurses, and everyone on my medical team contributed to my overall healing and I couldn't be more grateful. Please help me to raise awareness and support the Colon Cancer Coalition by making a contribution and sharing this page with your family and friends. Every dollar I raise will advance Colon Cancer Coalition's mission and help save lives!

Together, we can make a difference!
