Stop Colon Cancer in its tracks by helping save lives through PREVENTATIVE measures.

IT IS NOT a REQUIREMENT TO RAISE MONEY FOR THIS EVENT HOWEVER, any amount DIRECTLY donated to this organization will be greatly appreciated coming from friends, family and my community will be pooled with other people’s efforts and help fund local programs to increase screening and awareness of colon and rectal cancer, as well as programs and services to support those living with the disease.

I’ve signed up for Get Your Rear in Gear(AGAIN!) with a team(Running4Beth)– a fun event, with a funny name – to raise awareness and increase screening for a not-so-funny disease: colon cancer. I am doing this again for my ever-dearest sister, Beth. She was struggling with the disease and fighting to be in remission the last time my husband and I joined the race and she's in that stage at this time which gives our survivors every hope to fight even more.. but she takes each day with a very POSITIVE attitude and GRATITUDE that she is still with us.

She wakes up every day ready to go to work (except Sunday) even on BAD DAYS (of course worst days, calls it off), checking on nephews if they are awake(yet) and/or ready for breakfast, helps take care of the household and she loves to have FUN!
She loves the beach, her job and her patients, kids, and she is very adventurous. She is ALWAYS finding ways to better herself not just in her profession but also her health and how she can live a NORMAL lifestyle.

She LOVES LIFE too much-She does not want to give in or give up. She won't miss a day without taking a Selfie! She can't miss a day when there's no more chance to do any of that in her lifetime. We love that about her. I wake up in the morning and see one of the funniest video clips that will start my day laughing. She is one funny girl just don't make her cry. She’ll cry most of the day. BUT she is also one of the bravest and strongest women on this planet.

Your support will be greatly appreciated.

BASIC FACTS About Colorectal Cancer

-It is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death.
-Colorectal cancer affects men and women equally, and people of all races and nationalities.
-Anyone can get colorectal cancer.
-The lifetime risk of being diagnosed with colorectal cancer is about one in 20.
-The 5-year relative survival rate for Stage 1 and Stage II colon cancer was 90%; the 5-year survival rate for patients diagnosed at Stage III was 70% and Stage IV was 12%.
-Colorectal cancer usually develops slowly over a period of 10 to 15 years.
-Colorectal cancer rates in the US vary widely by geographic area. Contributing factors include regional variations in risk factors and access to screening and treatment.
-Compared to whites, all other racial/ethnic groups are less likely to have colorectal cancer found in the early stages.
-Colorectal cancer incidence rates have been declining in the US since the mid-1980s, due to increased awareness and screening.
-Often, those who are diagnosed with colon cancer have experienced no signs or symptoms associated with the disease.
-Currently, only about two-thirds of people aged 50 or older, for whom screening is recommended, report having received colorectal cancer testing consistent with current guidelines.
-While most people diagnosed with colon cancer have no family history of the disease, those with a family history of the disease should begin screening at an earlier age.
-People with a parent, sibling, or offspring with colorectal cancer have 2 or 3 times the risk of developing colon cancer compared to those with no family history of the disease.
-When a relative is diagnosed at a young age or if there is more than one affected relative, the risk of developing colorectal cancer increases to three to six times that of the general population.

My gratitude to all of you who have taken the time to spare a little.
