I will be running on November 9th supporting the Colon Cancer Coalition! Their mission is to increase screening and to educate others about signs and symptoms of colon cancer. Colon cancer is on the rise in young people with no family history or obvious risk factors. Do not hesitate to make that appointment with your primary care physician to look into any vague symptoms, my symptoms were dismissed by two physicians before being diagnosed, advocate for yourself! The standard of care for colon cancer screening is now at age 45!

Some of the symptoms I first noticed was numbness in my toes and exercise intolerance while jogging behind my son as he rode his bike. After months passed by, at 40 years old, I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in April 2024. During the year of treatment and post surgery, one of the things I tried to do each day was to go outside or take a walk. Looking back, I can see how my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ sustained my family and gave me strength when I had none. I am forever grateful for my husband, who is a gift to me, he nursed me back to health and was a constant for our kids and family.
I’m very thankful for the family and friends that supported us. God provided in so many ways - exactly what we needed just for each day.

Hope is not a change in circumstances or in an outcome that is much desired but it is knowing the truth, and knowing who Jesus is. His presence in the darkness has been my hope. I will cling to His promises as I continue on in my surveillance years trusting Him.

I read somewhere each day is a gift, that’s why it’s called the present. Each day is truly a gift.
