In June 2020, I went in for a routine colonoscopy.
Dr. Luis Lizardo-Sanchez discovered an Adenocarcinoma cancer in the transverse colon. I went off to surgery in August 2020 where Dr. Cedrik McFadden did a right hemicolectomy (removed 15 inches of my colon) and checked 30 lymph nodes. I was given a Stage 1 cancer rating with no spread of the cancer to other parts of my body.
Frequent colonoscopies are my new normal. I am thankful for the skill of my Doctors, early detection and my continued health as a survivor.

Did you know that colorectal cancer is the second deadliest cancer? Only lung cancer kills more Americans each year than colon cancer, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Regular, early screening is essential to catching this disease before it begins and in its earliest stages.
