Duke's Reunion Fundraiser in Honor of Marty Batey

What a great day we had! Thank you to all who attended and/or donated. We had three goals:

1. Honor Marty by raising money for Colon Cancer research and awareness.
2. Have fun.
3. Put on a good show.

Thanks to all of you we raised thousands of dollars and will keep this page open (keep those donations coming, folks!).

If those who attended had half as much fun as we did we can check off #2. We had no idea how much fun it would be to reconnect with one another - and with you! Some of us hadn't seen each other in 40+ years!

We'll leave it for others to critique the show - hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Happy Birthday, Marty.
===========================================================

In December of 1971 a group of seniors entered Baldwin High School's talent contest as a 1950's band called The Dukes. They rocked the doors off the place, and one of Long Island's biggest bands was born. Members have come and gone over the years (we counted more than 30 Dukes over the years), but there was always one constant: Marty Batey. Marty was one of the original Dukes, and he never left - until colon cancer took his life on September 22, 2020. We always knew there'd be a 50th reunion, but we expected Marty, our fearless leader and the glue that held the band together all these years, would be the one to plan it. We're paying tribute to Marty by making the reunion a fundraiser for the Colon Cancer Coalition. The reunion will be on Saturday, November 6th (Marty's Birthday), from noon to 5 pm at the Warehouse in Amityville, NY - about 20 miles east of Baldwin High (also 20 miles from the 1890's club, where the Dukes were the house band back in the day). There's a $20 cover. Our goal is to raise $15,000 so please consider a donation in addition to the $20 cover. You can donate on this web page or at the event - and please check with your employer about matching donations - hundreds of employers do this! Please share a Duke's memory in the Comments section! We hope to see you at the Warehouse on November 6th, but if you can't make it, you can still attend (and donate!), as we'll be live-streaming the concert from this webpage. Spread the word - and long live rock and roll!
