Almost two months and over 2,700 miles into this 3200 mile cross-country ride. It is going amazingly well. I have been so blessed by so many people along the way. Whether it's cycling through eastern Arizona at breakneck speed to avoid incoming weather or meeting Henry, the Walmart truck driver who rescued me those two water bottles on an Arizona hilltop; each one has touched me in a divine way. It really does feel like He is looking over me.

Battling colon cancer for over 8 years, Donna calls her cancer "a social butterfly". It's that spirit of embracing the moment and making the most of what she has immediately in front of her that makes Donna so special. Her strength, endless positivity, and always finding something good in everything around her is infectious.

This is not about racing from coast to coast, pounding pedals for endless miles and "crashing" in hotels each night. It's about meeting people like Dave and Julie, Craig, and Bhagwant with beautiful stories along the way. Soaking up nature's beauty, one can appreciate at 13mph (sometimes 3.9 mph up that 2200ft climb) It's about solo-camping in campgrounds, on national forest land, or sometimes just over that berm on the side of the road.

Charles warned me in Eunice, La that crossing into Baton Rouge would be difficult. I never imagined just how prophetic that warning was.

Just one of so many that have made this trip so memorable. Looking forward to more stories and positive energy.

Never knew there was a difference between picked and stripped cotton until riding through Texas' panhandle.

Grandma Debby and grandson Calvin's generosity here, putting me up in a heated camper on a frigid Dec evening reinforces the goodness that unites Americans.

Ive heard about the wind in Texas, but it's a different feeling it for a week. It's strength and energy are unrelenting. Looking forward to a change of direction.

When a chance encounter on I40 turns into a couple of texts looking for help with my bike, Julie and Dave of Albuquerque are more than generous with their help and friendship. Thanks guys for helping make this ride so special.

Who wouldn't have a smile on their face after being put up in a nice hotel for 2 nights so the bike could get fixed. Thanks much Craig for your generosity.

When two strangers at a highway gas station in eastern Arizona know somebody who knows this mobile bike mechanic in Albuquerque, I am truly blessed. Dave and Julie turned a random act of kindness into a blessing snowball. You are the best.

After my not-so-little water issue coming out of the Arizona high plains desert, my 3 liter water container always has a little something extra. Even though the water adds considerable weight, it is well worth the peace of mind.

Dov and Terry Kischimovsky from Jerusalem for two weeks. When they aren't touring by bike through Tibet or Ethiopia, it's hiking the Canyon.

What's more breathtaking, Grand Canyon or natural juniper Bonsai?

Is it pretty definitive when mature trees are left growing in the left lane of old Route 66 in San Bernardino County, CA?

Nacho in LA chases me down just to chat about his dream to cycle way out there and advise me to avoid "weeds" in the cracks.

Always great to connect with fellow cyclists. John here rides a few miles along Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades. Having ridden a few long-distance treks himself, he did offer a few pointers. The time and fellowship is most appreciated

I must say, between the hat, jacket, and panniers I think I'm well-coordinated. Yes, it will be face masks for 48 straight hours on the train.

The official TourDeTush footwear are packed with the old-school business cards. (Yes, I can also share a digital business card.) The peddling begins officially tomorrow morning once I disembark at Union Station. Sleep! Who needs sleep?

I know. This is mid-September for you guys in Minnesota. But for us SE Michigan lightweights, this just means the morning training ride now includes relearning those bike-handling skills in the snow. T minus 11.

Covid isnt stopping us this year. T minus 14 days and counting. Training is going well. Gear is ready. Train ticket to LA is updated. Lets Go!

Life just got a whole lot better getting a custom fit on the ride last week. Kinda obvious what that one major replacement was going to be.

Who says cycling can't be a religious experience. At All Time Weddings just outside Fair Haven, MI on a training ride out to Harsens Island. I thought Harsens Island was a small, cute Mackinac Island, not a robust, windswept 35 mile loop.
