No Ifs, Ands, or Butts

Welcome to our team page!

My name is Casey Stephens, and I want this year to be my biggest team yet! My mom, Cindy, was diagnosed with Stage III Colon Cancer in 2016 and has endured surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy to become a SURVIVOR! She was able to be diagnosed and treated in time because she got her COLONOSCOPY.

While pursuing my PhD, I have become interested in the barriers for people who have not yet been screened for colon cancer. You wouldn't believe what the studies show. From the 30+ articles I've read so far, clinical research has shown that people are not getting screened because they aren't EDUCATED ABOUT IT. I believe it's my job to educate those around me to understand why this screening is so important.

Did you know that a colonoscopy not only screens for cancer, but if the doctor sees any polyps (those clusters of cells that turn into cancer) during the procedure they scrape them off, decreasing your chance of cancer even more! No other cancer screening test is as preventative as a colonoscopy!

Think of it as getting your colon cleaned, like going to the dentist to get your teeth cleaned!

My goal is to have a 20 member strong team this year. You can register to walk in Charlotte, or even in the comfort of your own town by choosing the virtual option!

A 5K is 3.1 miles. For the Valdese folks out there, that's a little over 12 laps at the Old Rock School track. You can even break it up into 4 laps a day!

I think my mom deserves the world, and it would make her day for you to participate on our 2020 team!
