Did you know that colorectal cancer is the second deadliest cancer? Only lung cancer kills more Americans each year than colon cancer.

I certainly didn't know this. In 2019, while working in cancer research, I never thought I would be spending my Valentine's Day receiving my very own cancer diagnosis.

I am not alone.

The incidence rate of colorectal cancer continues to rise between 1% and 2% each year in people under the age of 55, an alarming trend since the mid-1990s. The mortality rate in young people is also increasing about 1% each year since the mid-2000s. Colorectal cancer has now become the leading cause of cancer death in men under 50 and the second leading cause in women of the same age group!

it doesn’t have to be that way! Regular, early screening is essential to catching this disease before it begins and in its earliest stages.

Survival rate is over 90% when caught in early stages.

My goal this year is to support the research and efforts on raising awareness about this disease.
