On August 27, 2022, I received a phone call that no daughter ever wants to receive. It was my dad, my hero, informing me that he had Stage 4 colon cancer. You often hear about how cancer affects everyone, and how horrible this disease is, but you never really understand the profound impact of it until it touches your own life. My dad is the strongest guy I know and I have no doubt in my mind that he’s going to kick cancer’s ass. However, colon cancer is still the second deadliest cancer, and unfortunately, the rate of people diagnosed with it each year is increasing. I’m participating in this race and fundraising for this amazing cause so that no child, spouse, parent, sibling, or friend ever has to receive that phone call again.
