My best friend Kara is one of the strongest, bravest people I know.
In September 2024, at just 36 years old — a mom to a 5-month-old and a 3-year-old — she thought she was recovering from a tough pregnancy and dealing with hemorrhoids. Instead, she was diagnosed with stage 3B rectal cancer. Overnight, Kara’s world flipped from enjoying the newborn bubble to stopping breastfeeding abruptly so she could start aggressive chemotherapy.
Since then, she’s endured 8 rounds of chemo, 28 rounds of chemo radiation, and major surgery with a temporary ileostomy. It’s been an incredibly tough year for her and her family, but she has fought every single day — pushing through for her kids and for her future.
We’re walking to support Kara, to break the stigma, and to raise funds and awareness for colorectal cancer. Every step is for her, and every donation helps bring hope and a future without stories like this.
Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in people under 50 — and rates in young adults have been rising sharply over the past few decades. Survival rate is over 90% when caught in early stages. By donating and sharing this page, you can directly help people that are impacted by rectal and colon cancer and help save lives.
Thank you for your support! We are stronger together.
