Hello friends and family,
As many of you already know, I was diagnosed with colon cancer in December of this year.I was scared and in shock. Not having answers or a plan was the worst. My mind would just spin to all the worst possible scenarios and it was not a fun place to be. After a few weeks of crying, anger and disbelief, I decided enough was enough. I vowed that from here on out, I would dedicate myself to bringing awareness to colorectal cancer. Which brings me here! I had surgery in February 2022 where , it was discovered that my colon cancer was at a stage 3 and I would require chemo. Sucks! But now I have a plan! Some of you may not know that my daddy was diagnosed with colorectal cancer at the age of 74 and it was advanced. I wish he would have caught it earlier, but we didn't. Daddy passed in 2009 after battling cancer for 8 months. We didn't know what we didn't know. Now we know better. And if you know me, you know one of my favorite quotes from beloved poet Maya Angelou is "When you know better, you do better." So here I am. Here we are. And now that I know better, I am making it my mission to bring awareness to this disease. I am encouraging everyone I know to get your colonoscopies, and to not ignore symptoms such as bloating, constipation, diarrhea, change in bowel habits, unexplained weight loss. My symptom was bloating. But I just always attributed my bloating to what I ate or that time of the month. Boy was so wrong! My body was telling me You're in danger, girl!” (Bonus points if you can tell me that movie that line is from!) I wish I would have listened! So now I am telling you…LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. Talk to your doctor!
While I cannot control what is happening inside of my body, I can totally control my outlook and attitude. Once I had answers, my amazing oncology team created a a plan for me to help fight this disease. I was lucky enough to find this organization that was having a 5K walk/run in San Antonio and the best part, the part that I loved the most was that all the funds raised for this event stay in the San Antonio area and are used for raising awareness and providing screenings to people in our beautiful city.

Thank you to everyone who has joined my team and/or donated. You guys rock!!

Please help me support Colon Cancer Coalition by making a contribution to my fundraiser and sharing this page with your family and friends. Every dollar I raise will advance Colon Cancer Coalition's great cause! Additionally, you can ask me how you can get involved too.
Together, we can make a difference!
