My 2021 Get Your Rear in Gear - Seattle Personal Page

Welcome family and friends! It is that time of year again. The Seattle GYRIG event takes place on September 18th, 2021!
Please help me support Colon Cancer Coalition by making a contribution to my fundraiser and sharing this page with your loved ones. Every dollar I raise will advance Colon Cancer Coalition's great cause. The goal of the Colon Cancer Coalition is to raise screening rates, increase awareness, educate the public about the signs and symptoms of the disease, and provide support for patients and caregivers. Together, we can make a difference.
This is my fourth year participating in this very important event. In 2019, our team raised $1405 and in 2020, we raised $1915. My goal in 2021 is to raise $2000 for the Colon Cancer Coalition!
I was initially diagnosed in October 2017 with stage 2b colon cancer. I had surgery to remove my primary tumor and then completed 12 rounds of Folfox chemotherapy. I was 2.5 years NED (No Evidence of Disease) before a small lesion was discovered on my liver. The initial biopsy was benign, but I would learn a year later that this was in fact, a cancer recurrence. I had surgery in May 2021 to remove this tumor and am NED once again!! I'm currently doing 6 months of oral Xeloda chemotherapy to prevent another recurrence.
My goal remains for every person to be aware of the symptoms of colon cancer. The symptoms may include a change in bowel habits, bleeding, cramping or abdominal pain, weakness and fatigue, unintended weight loss, and anemia. You could also have NO symptoms. If you are 45 years of age or experiencing these symptoms, it is so important to schedule your colonoscopy screening today. This disease is preventable with screening and treatable with early intervention. My second goal is for every cancer patient to become a long term survivor.
Please join me in raising awareness about colon cancer by walking with me and donating to the Colon Cancer Coalition.
You can sign up for this event under "Team Sydney" and make donations right here on my page under "Team Sydney." The event will take place in Redmond, WA on Saturday September 18th, 2021 at 9am.
Thank you for your continued support over the last (almost) 4 years of my survivorship.
Sincerely,
Sydney
